What is a blog? TheWeblogProject Is Alive video clip

TheWeblogProject has been taking a LONG vacation to re-organize itself after some important changes.

The road ahead has presented itself a bit more difficult than expected, and my original partners in the project, Marco Montemagno and Massimo Stella have decided to move onto another ambitious Internet Television project: TGBlog.

TGBlog is a daily mini-dose of useful information for everyone wanting to learn more about the Internet in the format of a one-minute videoclip. Marco presents the news in Italian and Massimo has taken very good care of the production, shooting and editing aspects. The clips are well produced and quite interesting indeed. Though there haven't been news updates since the start of the long Italian summer holiday, if you don't mind watching some Italian-spoken grassroots net news you may want to spend 60 seconds and check out some of the cool clips aired so far. Here is one about Robert Scoble from the July TGBlog dailies.

On the other hand I have taken some time to re-organize TheWeblogProject overall roadmap, its team and the upcoming steps ahead.

I and the new friends that have come on-board have spent a great deal of time in figuring out all of the technical aspects that we needed to resolve. Nonetheless the hype video production on the Internet remains for now a very challenging proposition in terms of production technicalities. Information is little, and often times incomplete and misleading.

For those wanting to master the encoding of clips into different video formats the road ahead is definitely frustrating.

What format should be using for your final clips?

Quicktime, Windows Media, Real, MPEG4? All of them?

What is the right file size and compression setting to use?

What codec does deliver the best video quality for the smallest file size?

We run into all of these questions and many more. And, believe me, it wasn't easy to answer them. But we did. We have tested software tools on the Mac and on the PC, have posted files to Ourmedia, YouTube, Vimeo, Jusspress, Google Video and many other online video publishing services to see what worked best.

In the coming posts I will be reporting on what answers we have found to those questions and what the solutions we have adopted. I will indeed chronicle my backstage work to enable the production of this ambitious open-source movie about blogs and bloggers.

This blog will remain the key reference point for all updates and news about what is cooking inside TheWeblogProject.

Stay tuned.
