What is a blog? Time To Remix! TheWebLogProject Enters Its Next Phase video clip
Thursday, April 20, 2006After 150 clips or so, TheWeblogProject is just about to enter a new phase.
Having now collected and published here on these pages all of these video clips about what blogs really are, as viewed by the voices of bloggers and street people, there is enough of a collection of good source footage, in a manageable digital format, that can be used for editing some interesting open-source mini-movies.
Mini-movies?
Yes. During the one year of experimentation with TheWeblogProject I have learned lots of things, including the fact, that everything we are doing now is just too new and open, to be shaped by old-fashioned ways of doing things.
I realize now, that all we have collected together here in this project, is a great educational collection on a theme on which many people today are interested to learn more about. But unless this nice collection is molded into a series of mini-compilations,. two-minute glimpses of blog reality as seen by different and mixed groups, we will have done only half of the job.
So, the time is now for opening TheWeblogProject to open remixing and editing for everyone. And of course all of your mini-movies will be showcased here as well.
Here is how to participate:
By leveraging the great and free facilities made available by Eyespot and Jumpcut, anyone can now participate into editing TheWeblogProject and into creating one or more mini-movies out of it.
Both Eyespot and Jumpcut do offer in fact facilities that allow you to start immediately editing, remixing and mashing up any of the over 140 video clips that I have already uploaded to both services.
Yes, you have read it right.
You can edit any of original video clips that I have published so far, and create, right now, a little mini-movie, open-source edition of it, for others to learn from and enjoy.
Here are a few first example remixes:
What is a blog remix - by Lando - a great user remix already available on Jumpcut:
Here above is the direct preview if you have broadband (just click play to watch it - if the video starts stuttering just click pause and wait a bit more - then restart it):
Flash remix by Nico and Alessandro, hosted and created on Jumpcut.
Nico TWP Supermix, by Nico Canali De Rossi, a simple demo remix done and hosted on Eyespot.
All of the TheWeblogProject video clips ready to be edited into mini-movies are reachable here:
Jumpcut collection of TheWeblogProject clips.
Eyespot Group - TheWeblogProject - collection of available and remixable clips hosted on Eyespot
If you want to edit the original video clips from TheWeblogProject into a new mini-movie, you only need to go to either Eyespot or Jumpcut, sign-up and start selecting clips from my two collections (URLs above) to remix and edit into a new mini-movie.
That's all.
Please, remember to "tag" you mini-movies with "theweblogproject", so that I can easily spot them and republish them here.
Go remix!
TheWeblogProject, which was originally started back in March 2005 is now a year old. I would like to take the opportunity to thank at this time all those that have made it possible:
Marco Montemagno for suggesting me the original idea.
All the great bloggers that have shared some little time to contribute to this.
Alessandro Luccardi for shooting, archiving and uploading a great number of the clips done here in Rome.
Nico Canali De Rossi for post-producing and encoding the selected video clips for online publication.
Chiara Moriconi for contributing many of the text transcriptions (in fact, I need still a few of these; so if anyone out there would give us a hand, we would greatly appreciate).
You for reading through to this point.
