What is a blog? Nancy White: Blogs for Development video clip
Friday, January 13, 2006This is the third video clip from Nancy White.
Nancy has definitely provided some of the most colorful and original viewpoints on what blogs are. Her descriptions and definitions truly reflect her mission as a facilitator, enabler and "social nurse", as well as her genuine interest for giving "voice" to those that don't have one.
What I can say for the little that I have learned of Nancy in these interviews, is that she is someone who sincerely dedicates her life to enable others do more and better of whatever they want to do.
You can view and read more about Nancy in these other two great video clips:

Here is what she had to say in this third clip:
"I work a lot in the non-profit, the NGO, the development sector, and I believe that blogs are another way of giving voice. And that’s needed because sometimes I think we have this top-down approach to, you know, those with voice think what everybody else should do. Or here’s how you should have voice.
But blogs actually give individuals voices in ways I don’t think they had before because they reach outside of their geographical or physical community.
And sometimes, you know how it is that you’re not listened to anyone in the community, but when you go outside your own community, people hear you in a different way?
Well, a blog can give us a way to have our voice heard outside our communities and I think that is one really important social aspect of blogging, in terms of change in the world.
I look at the bridge blog work that Ethan and Rebecca are doing out of their Berkman Center in Harvard in the United States and they are helping amplify that voice by drawing attention to bloggers in, to third world countries who wouldn’t otherwise wouldn’t have an audience unless somebody pointed to them.
