What is a blog? TheWeblogProject Overall Plan: Key Dates video clip

Saturday, April 9, 2005

As promised here is a good update on the latest developments of TheWeblogProject.

Updated overall time plan:

null

We have finally reviewed some of our initial reference dates for the project and here are the reference milestones we have set:

  • March 9th 2005 - TheWeblogProject is announced on the Web
  • March 15th 2005 - Started accepting open contributions (video clips, audio, text, music)
  • April 21st Friday 22nd - Live Press Conference from San Francisco City Club(web conference with live Q&A) - Robin Good will announce officially the start of the project in a small live press event that will be transmitted online with access to live questions from reporters, bloggers and journalists from everywhere. In the press conference Robin will introduce in person the philosophy of the movie and the goals to be achieved in the project. Next to announcing the initial sponsors of the project Robin Good will also underline which are the economic, social and production-related aspects of this project that point and explore one of the likely directions that movie production, distribution and consumption will take in the near future.

  • July 15-17 - Participation at Podcast Hotel in Seattle (with support from sponsors) - Showcase of initial footage and selected clips - Live shooting and interviews for the film on-site
  • October 1st - Close gathering of external contributions
  • October 2nd - December 31st - Editing and post-production first final master(s)
  • January 2006 - Launch TheWeblogProject first open release

Types of video contributions.
Relating to the types of video contributions we are expecting from participating authors, these should be submitted only in digital formats.
Duration of the clips is not limited anymore to two minutes, as extensive feedback has been received from contributors requesting a less restrictive time limit on clips to be contributed.

For those wishing to conduct interviews it is strongly advised to keep such interviews within 3-5 minutes max.

Key elements of the movie will be:

  1. interviews with bloggers
  2. bloggers in action
  3. reactions and comments of other people about bloggers' work
  4. news clips and mainstream media reports
  5. technical and social commentary by experts

The above list, is like everything else we have proposed, open to challenge and further development.

The communication goal of the movie, remains the one of being able to communicate in a new, innovative, engaging way, what blogs are all about and why they may be so important to us. The focus is much on the use of blogs for specific applications and not in general on the coverage of the initial blog movement expressing itself through personal diaries.

The "cut" and film-making style wants to be direct, unmediated, and as genuine as possible. We are not using professional actors, and we want as much as possible to see bloggers themselves contribute interesting clips or pointers to blog stories worth our coverage.

Coming up next: Sponsorship, San Francisco press conference, participation in New Media event in Rome April 28th.
