Good Interview with Howard Rheingold

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Got a great video interview in the backyard of Howard Rheingold and some of the clearest definitions of what blogs really are.

It has been quite surprising to see how difficult it can be for some of the popular bloggers I have interviewed so far, to explain, in a few, simple words, what a blog is. Of course the less geeky ones have some advantage at this, as they are more trained at exemplifying and popularizing complex ideas to non-technical audiences. In this respect Howard and before him Jay Cross, gave me some very clear and easy to understand definition for blogs which I feel are right on the mark with the communication goals of this movie.

Marc Canter, Video formats, Howard Rheingold

Sunday, April 24, 2005

Got an interesting video interview with Marc Canter.

Before it, we talked a lot about ourmedia.org and Marc's vision for DLAs (digital lifestyle aggregators). According to him every "brand" worth of that name will own and distribute one in the next 5-10 years.

Marc was also kind enough to suggest talking further to Eli Chapman, which works for AVID and focuses on Web productions and applications, to start defining in more detail the digital video formats that will be used for making this project possible.

Today I am off to interview Howard Rheingold.

Abandoning the top 20: everyone can be a star (and it's not us deciding it)

Monday, April 4, 2005

Yes, no more top 20. The WeblogProject will not be using the votes submitted by bloggers to select a number of bloggers to be interviewed.

As of now we feel that our proposition for letting everyone vote and elect the most relevant bloggers to go and interview around the world does not work. We acknowledge our error and we gently steer to improve our direction.

This is what we think:

a) In the grassroots spirit of the movie, we agree and convene that nor A-list or any other individual group should be reserved preference exclusively due to past glories or simply to length of service.

b) The interest is not so much for having the popular A-lister rather than the unknown guy or vide-versa, but for having strong, impactful stories that can allow us to bridge to those who still balk at the word "blog" without understanding what the party is all about.
